US Democrats call for cutting aid to Israeli occupation due to Netanyahu’s policies

WASHINGTON, July 16 (YPA) – More than half of the Democrats in the US House of Representatives voted to cancel $3.3 billion in military aid to the Israeli occupation, in the most significant indication yet of the erosion of traditional bipartisan support for Israel.

The vote was 104 to 314, insufficient to include the amendment in a broader national security spending bill, but it reflects a growing shift in the positions of the Democratic Party and the United States toward the war strategy pursued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which is nearing its third year.

More than 100 Democratic representatives voted to cancel the aid, while a similar number voted against it, and most Republicans supported maintaining the aid.

The vote comes amid escalating criticism within American political circles of the Netanyahu government’s policies and the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip, which has contributed to growing demands to reconsider the nature of US military support for Israel.
