TEHRAN, July 16 (YAP) – Iran’s Army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akrami Nia, affirmed on Thursday the armed forces’ full readiness to defend the country’s national interests.
In an interview with the Iranian news agency Fars on Thursday, he warned that if the United States continues its hostile actions against Iran, the Iranian armed forces’ response will be stronger than the enemy expects, and new fronts of confrontation will emerge.
Akrami Nia highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, describing the international waterway as one of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s most significant geopolitical assets, whose importance continues to grow in regional and global strategic calculations.
He said countries from outside the region should engage with Iran on the basis of mutual respect, stressing that the Iranian armed forces are fully prepared to safeguard the country’s security and national interests.
Akrami Nia also emphasized Iran’s ability to manage and secure the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the country possesses extensive defensive and operational capabilities and will maintain the security of the strategic waterway through its own resources and armed forces.
Referring to recent regional developments, he said there is no confrontation between Iran and neighboring Islamic countries, adding that Tehran has consistently sought to strengthen cooperation and fraternal ties with regional states.
He described the presence and intervention of external powers in West Asia as a source of instability, arguing that experience has shown lasting security cannot be imposed from outside the region and that reliance on national capabilities remains the strongest guarantee of a country’s security.
Speaking about Iran’s military capabilities, Akrami Nia said that a large portion of the armed forces’ capabilities and potential has not yet been revealed, warning that any hostile act against Iran would be met with a response proportionate to the circumstances and beyond the enemy’s expectations.
He added that the Iranian armed forces, drawing on their faith, expertise, experience, and operational readiness, regard the protection of the Iranian people’s security, interests, and dignity as their primary mission and will spare no effort in fulfilling that responsibility.
Akrami Nia concluded by saying that Iran has significantly enhanced its defense capabilities in recent years, enabling it to protect its national interests over the long term, and vowed that the country would deliver a decisive and proportionate response to any threat or act of aggression.
