MADRID, July 11 (YPA) – Spain’s National Court has initiated an investigation against high-ranking Israeli military officials related to the 2015 attack on the “Sumud Flotilla,” which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
This decision follows a complaint from various Spanish political parties and civil organizations. Judge Francisco de Jorge has targeted Israeli occupation army chief Eyal Zamir and another senior official for unlawful detention during the interception of the flotilla approximately 70 nautical miles offshore.
The judge will consult with the International Criminal Court to assess Spain’s jurisdiction to investigate incidents involving Spanish-flagged vessels and whether they relate to broader charges of genocide or war crimes.
The court has affirmed that it will pursue the investigation into unlawful detentions aboard these ships, implementing the necessary urgent measures.
