Nablus: Committee of Families of Political Prisoners accuses Al-Junaid prison administration of committing serious violations
RAMALLAH, July 11 (YPA) – The Committee of Families of Political Prisoners in the West Bank accused the administration of al-Junaid Prison in Nablus of committing serious violations against detainees, calling on the International Committee of the Red Cross and human rights organizations to intervene urgently and visit the prison.
In a statement issuedonSaturday, the committee said that documented testimonies from inside the prison indicated that detainees were subjected to torture and ill-treatment, including beatings with hoses, being forced to stand for hours, threats, insults, and forced shaving of heads and beards, in addition to humiliating body searches.
It added that the suffering of the detainees extends to their families, who are subjected to harassment during visits and are prevented from bringing in most necessities, forcing the detainees to buy them at high prices from inside the prison.
It pointed out that visits take place behind barriers and in the presence of officers from the Palestinian Authority security services, and that any detainee who objects is referred to the “security committee” and subjected to beatings and abuse for days.
The committee accused the prison administration of pressuring detainees wanted by the occupation to force them to surrender, and of releasing others only to have them immediately re-arrested by the occupation, considering this “clear collusion.”
At the end of its statement, it called on human rights organizations to inspect the conditions of al-Junaid prison and the detention centers affiliated with the authorities, and to pressure for an end to the violations and the protection of detainees.
