Sanaa orders investigation into police misconduct in Hodeida

SANAA, July 08 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based Sanaa Deputy Interior Minister Maj. Gen. Abdulmajid Al-Murtada has ordered the formation of an investigative committee to examine a complaint filed by citizen Laila Al-Maqtari, who alleged she was mistreated by a police officer at the Bajil Police Station in Hodeida province.

The case gained attention after being circulated on social media, according to Yemeni security media.

According to the Interior Ministry’s media outlet, Hodeida Security said the committee has begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to establish the facts and take the necessary legal measures based on the findings.

The security authorities confirmed that the accused officer has been suspended and referred for investigation pending the completion of legal proceedings in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The province’s security stressed that the Interior Ministry will not tolerate any misconduct or individual actions that harm citizens or violate laws and regulations governing police work. It reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, the rule of law, and equal application of justice, in a manner that protects citizens’ dignity and upholds the integrity and professionalism of the security services.

The authorities added that the investigation’s findings will be made public once the committee completes its work, along with the legal measures to be taken based on the results, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to justice, transparency, and strengthening public trust in the security institution.
