Najaf bids farewell to Martyr Sayyid Ali Khamenei in grand million-man funeral

NAJAF, July 08 (YPA) – The city of Najaf al-Ashraf in Iraq witnessed on Wednesday the influx of massive crowds exceeding 2.3 million mourners to participate in the farewell and funeral ceremonies of the body of the martyr Sayyid Ali Khamenei, amidst a solemn atmosphere marked by overwhelming grief and loyalty.

The body of the martyr Sayyid Khamenei had arrived Tuesday evening in Najaf al-Ashraf, accompanied by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, where it was received at the aircraft door by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, alongside an Iraqi and foreign political and diplomatic crowd.

Farewell Ceremonies and the Main Procession

• The Visitation: The coffin was transferred during the night to the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) before the official and public funeral ceremonies commenced.
• The Procession: The vehicle designated to carry the pure body began moving slowly through the dense crowds and chanting masses that filled the city’s streets to participate in this historic stage of the funeral ceremonies within Iraqi territory.
