Ireland bans Israeli settlement goods

DUBLIN, July 08 (YPA) – The Irish Parliament approved on Wednesday a bill banning the import and trade of all products from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The coalition government in Dublin confirmed that the new legislation prohibits agricultural, commercial, and industrial goods from the “illegal” settlements, coinciding with Irish moves to cancel the trade partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel.

With this step, Ireland becomes the first EU country to impose a complete ban, based on the 2024 International Court of Justice ruling that the occupation is illegal.

The decision follows a series of diplomatic stances taken by Ireland against the occupation since its recognition of the State of Palestine, including closing the Israeli embassy in Dublin and banning the entry of extremist ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich last month.

In June 2026, Britain announced its intention to move towards a complete ban on settlement goods, while other countries, including France and the Netherlands, have taken similar positions.
