TEHRAN, Aug. 22 (YPA) – The head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Ebrahim Azizi, said that the United States will be forced, under the pressure of “the language of force,” to leave the region and apologize to the Iranian people.
Azizi added that the Americans have proven that they “do not understand the language of diplomacy,” and will not lift sanctions, release Iranian funds, or stop what he called “acts of maritime piracy.” But he stressed that history will prove that they will be forced to do so, apologize, and leave the region.
This comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of resuming bombing Iran, emphasizing that the shift to an “economic warfare” strategy does not mean abandoning the military option. Trump described the economic operation against Tehran as “unprecedented isolation” and called on allies to join it.
CNN quoted US officials as saying that Washington is moving to a strategy of gradual economic “strangulation” of Iran instead of the military approach that began at the end of February 2026.
In this context, the US Treasury Department announced on Thursday new sanctions targeting 21 individuals, 16 companies, and 10 vessels linked to Iran, noting that they do not represent the broad restrictions threatened by Trump.
In recent weeks, Washington and Tehran, with the participation of Middle Eastern mediators, have been working to reach the terms of a new agreement to end the conflict.
