IRGC targets US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain in response to “CENTCOM” strikes

TEHRAN, July 08 (YPA) – The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Wednesday that it had attacked 85 critical US military facilities at Mina Salman in Bahrain and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait using drones and missiles, in addition to shooting down an enemy “MQ-9” drone.

This joint operation by the naval and air forces came in response to US strikes targeting coastal bases and civilian targets in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province, which the IRGC deemed a violation of the ceasefire agreement.

Conversely, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported executing a series of powerful strikes on Iran, claiming they were in retaliation for Iran’s targeting of commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

This military escalation follows a week after Doha hosted indirect technical talks between the two sides to defuse tensions, and comes after Iran and the US reached a memorandum of understanding in mid-June—mediated by Pakistan—outlining arrangements to end the war launched by the US and “Israel” against Iran on February 28, paving the way for comprehensive negotiations.
