GAZA, July 04 (YPA) – A coalition of Palestinian civil society organizations rejeced on Saturday the statements of the so-called “Pece Council” calling for the termination of UNRWA’s operations in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the coalition said that the council’s declaration regarding a “new Gaza” devoid of UNRWA falls within political efforts aimed at undermining the agency’s legal status and ending its role as an international witness to the refugee issue.
It also called for the rejection of any attempts to reduce UNRWA’s mandate and for ensuring its continued support and funding as an international legal obligation, stressing the need for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in protecting civilians, ensuring the delivery of aid, and protecting the right of return.
The coalition affirmed that the continuation of the agency’s work is a legal and political necessity until a just solution to the refugee issue is reached in accordance with international law.
