Katz: “Israeli forces to remain in Lebanon’s south”

QUDS, June 29 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation’s Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said his forces would not withdraw from positions in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed, adding that Israel’s military presence in the area will remain long-term.

In a news statement, Katz said Israeli occupation withdrawal would be limited to two designated “test areas” in southern Lebanon, stressing that no further pullouts are expected, as he claimed such steps would not occur before Hezbollah’s weapons are dismantled.

He added that his forces would continue to maintain what he described as “security zones” inside Lebanon, as well as positions in Syria and the Gaza Strip, asserting that the occupation has no intention of withdrawing from them.

Katz also added the occupation forces had proposed that the Lebanese army take responsibility for securing Ali al-Taher hill instead of Israeli forces, but claimed the Lebanese army declined to carry out the mission.

He noted that Israeli presence at Ali al-Taher hill was justified by concerns over Hezbollah tunnel activity, while denying any current plan to occupy the city of Nabatieh, saying such a move would require additional troop deployments.

The minister said the Israeli occupation’s objective is to fully clear the Litani region of Hezbollah fighters and weapons, underscoring continued military pressure amid ongoing tensions along the Lebanese front.
