BAGHDAD, June 29 (YPA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the ongoing violations of the memorandum of understanding by the United States and ‘Israel’ -specifically targeting the terms laid out in the agreement’s first article- are actively obstructing all efforts to restore security and stability to the region.
Araghchi made the remarks during talks in Baghdad with Iraq’s National Security Adviser, where the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and reviewed the latest regional and international developments, particularly security issues.
Araghchi reiterated that Iran continues to engage with the agreement in good faith on a “commitment for commitment” basis, but warned that Tehran would respond firmly to any breach of obligations.
He also called for the establishment of a self-sustaining regional mechanism to ensure peace and security, expressing Iran willingness to engage in serious dialogue with Gulf states to establish a collective security mechanism.
On maritime security, Araghchi said Iran would take all necessary measures regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the war-ending memorandum and in coordination with Oman and other regional countries.
For his part, Iraq’s National Security Adviser praised the level of bilateral relations and cooperation with Iran, expressing appreciation for Tehran’s support for Iraq.
He described Iran’s assistance to Iraq, particularly in the fight against the Islamic State group, as a historic position that “will not be forgotten.”
