MADRID, June 27 (YPA) – Spanish health authorities announced that 327 heat-related deaths have been recorded since last Sunday as the country experienced an unprecedented heatwave during the month of June.
The country experienced the most significant temperature, setting new records for both daytime maximum and nighttime minimum temperatures.
Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) confirmed that the heatwave ended on Thursday after several days of record-breaking temperatures across different parts of the country.
According to Spain’s national temperature records, which date back to 1950, June 23 became the hottest June day ever recorded, while June 22 ranked as the second hottest.
The World Meteorological Organization expects the heatwave to affect large parts of Western, Central, and Southern Europe over the next two weeks, with hot weather conditions expected to persist across several countries.
