ABU DHABI, June 23 (YPA) – The UAE is conducting accelerated talks with India to purchase advanced defense systems, including the supersonic BrahMos missile and the Akashtir air defense system.
Indian sources reported that the talks accelerated following security developments in the Middle East, as part of Abu Dhabi’s efforts to enhance its capabilities and diversify its arms options.
The negotiations include BrahMos missiles developed in cooperation with Russia, and the fully automated Akashtir system developed by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) with the Indian Army.
Experts believe that the UAE, despite possessing American systems such as THAAD and Patriot, is seeking strategic flexibility to confront evolving threats. Exporting BrahMos requires Moscow’s approval, but the close relationship between Russia and Abu Dhabi suggests that the deal will not be hindered.
