High school student “Raghad” did not make it to her final exam, as Israeli airstrike steals her future
GAZA, June 22 (YPA) – A high school student in the Gaza Strip was martyred this Monday morning following an “Israeli” airstrike that targeted Gaza City while she was on her way to take one of her final exams.
This latest incident epitomizes the cruelty of the aggression that pursues Palestinians even on their path to the classroom.
Palestinian media outlets reported that the student, Raghad Ashour, ascended [as a martyr] as a result of an Israeli aerial aggression that targeted the city. She was on her way to take a ministerial exam inside a café that—due to the aggression, power outages, and internet disruptions—had been converted into an alternative center for conducting electronic examinations.
In a related context, the Palestinian Red Crescent teams announced the martyrdom of a female citizen and the injury of three others in an airstrike launched by Israeli occupation aircraft on a vehicle in front of Al-Rehab Mall, near the “Jawwal” company, west of Gaza City. Medical teams confirmed they treated the injuries on-site, while continuing to monitor field developments in the area.
These attacks coincided with the recording of five new breaches of the calm agreement in the Gaza Strip since the dawn hours. These breaches consisted of targeting civilians in Gaza City and gunfire in the eastern areas of Gaza City and Khan Younis, signaling the continued fragility of the security situation and the escalating risks threatening the lives of the population.
High school students in the Gaza Strip are taking their exams this year under exceptional and harsh conditions imposed by the ongoing aggression, as electronic exams have been adopted as an alternative to in-person ones. Thousands of students are forced to head to cafés and venues where electricity and internet services are available to take their tests, after being deprived of regular schooling within their classrooms for three years.
The high school exams in Palestine commenced last Saturday morning, with the participation of more than 89,000 male and female students in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and outside Palestine.
Meanwhile, the story of student Raghad Ashour has turned into a painful scene embodying the reality of a Palestinian generation now facing death even on its journey to achieving its educational dreams.
