ADEN, June 21 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) warned on Sunday of possible escalatory measures against Saudi Arabia amid mounting tensions between the two sides following actions taken against the council since early January.
According to activists and supporters affiliated with the STC, discussions are underway regarding a comprehensive civil disobedience campaign in Aden, Seiyun, and Mukalla. Local sources indicated that an official announcement on the timing of the campaign could be made in the coming hours.
The developments follow demonstrations on Saturday in which protesters opposed to Saudi influence in southern Yemen were reportedly dispersed by Saudi-backed forces.
The STC and its supporters have also criticized moves by the Saudi-backed government to seek international sanctions against Aidarus al-Zubaidi and other council figures.
The dispute has further intensified following measures to freeze the STC’s financial assets and bank accounts, deepening political tensions between the two sides.
