HADRAMOUT, June 08 (YPA) – Widespread protests took place on Monday in Mukalla, the capital of Yemen’s Hadramout province, disrupting traffic on major roads amid mounting anger over a severe electricity crisis and deteriorating public services.
During the protests, protesters, mostly young residents, blocked key streets in the city center, including areas around Balqis Bridge, Al-Dis, and Fouah, using stones and burning tires, leading to heavy smoke and a near-total halt in traffic.
The demonstrations come amid power outages exceeding 17 hours per day due to a shortage of fuel for electricity generation, worsening conditions during an intense summer heatwave that residents described as unbearable.
Local residents in Hadramout blamed authorities for mismanagement of public services and failure to ensure adequate fuel supplies for power stations, further deepening the ongoing humanitarian and service crisis in the province.
