Over 9,500 prisoners face starvation, torture, medical neglect in Israeli prisons

QUDS, June 08 (YPA) – The Prisoners’ Information Office said in an updated fact sheet released on Monday that conditions for Palestinian and Arab detainees in Israeli occupation’s prisons have deteriorated significantly amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

According to the report, the number of Palestinian and Arab prisoners and detainees held in Israeli facilities has surpassed 9,500, with many facing worsening living and health conditions due to restrictive prison policies.

The fact sheet cited concerns over food shortages, overcrowding, the spread of skin diseases, limited access to hygiene supplies and clothing, and what it described as continued medical neglect of sick and injured detainees.

It also clarified an increase in cases of torture and sexual abuse, saying dozens of incidents had been documented in recent months.

The report further highlighted repeated prison raids, expanded use of administrative detention, and tighter restrictions on family visits and legal access, which it said have deepened the isolation of detainees.

Reviewing conditions across several major detention facilities, the office argued that the current situation reflects a serious decline in detainees’ living conditions and human rights protections.

The organization called on international and human rights bodies to investigate the reported violations, take action to protect detainees, and hold those responsible accountable under international law.
