HADRAMOUT, June 07 (YPA) – Saudi forces stationed at Al-Rayyan Airport in the eastern Yemeni city of Mukalla have redeployed on Sunday toward the Al-Dhabba oil port area on the Arabian Sea, amid heightened security measures and growing tensions in Hadramout province.
Local sources affirmed that clashes were heard near the airport’s main entrance following the troop movement, after which Saudi-backed emergency forces were deployed extensively around the facility.
According to the sources, the security alert followed an attempt by unidentified armed individuals to approach or breach the airport gate, prompting intervention by security forces.
The developments came as residents in the Foua district of Mukalla staged protests against local authorities, citing deteriorating public services and recurring electricity outages.
Concerns are also being grown over the possibility of similar demonstrations spreading to Aden, where residents have faced prolonged power cuts and extreme summer temperatures.
The unrest reflects broader public frustration in parts of southern and eastern Yemen over worsening economic and service conditions, amid ongoing political and security challenges in areas under the control of the internationally recognized government and its regional allies.
