BEIRUT, June 05 (YPA) – Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, Nabih Berri, said he supports the withdrawal of Hezbollah forces from areas south of the Litani River, provided that it is accompanied by a complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Lebanese territory beyond the internationally recognized border.
In a statement issued by his office on Friday, Berri criticized the U.S.-mediated ceasefire framework, describing it as unbalanced and insufficient to ensure a comprehensive end to hostilities.
He said the agreement would have been more acceptable had it included an immediate and unconditional ceasefire on land, sea, and air, while preventing military operations and destruction in affected areas.
Berri’s remarks came one day after Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem rejected the withdrawal of Hezbollah fighters from southern Lebanon and reiterated his call for a comprehensive ceasefire across Lebanese territory.
