Unidentified gunmen assassinate military officer in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, June 04 (YPA) – Unidentified gunmen assassinated a military officer in the Hadramout governorate in eastern Yemen on Thursday, marking the second fatal shooting in the area within 24 hours, local sources reported.

The assailants targeted the officer, identified as Lafi Ahmed Salem bin Jaafar al-Amiri, in the Tarbah area of the Sayoun district before fleeing to an unknown destination.

The attack follows the fatal shooting of a civilian, Ali Salem Batees, in the nearby Al-Qatn district on Wednesday evening.

The consecutive killings have renewed concerns among local observers and civil society activists regarding the volatile security environment in Hadramout valley. Analysts noted that the uptick in targeted violence underscores ongoing challenges faced by local security forces in curbing criminal activity and maintaining regional stability.
