QUDS, June 03 (YPA) – Israeli occupation’s planning authorities have approved the construction of 2,162 new housing units in Israeli settlements across the northern and southern occupied West Bank, marking the latest expansion of settlement activity in the Palestinian territories.
According to Israeli media reports, the decision is part of a broader government strategy aimed at expanding settlement development and strengthening planning frameworks in the West Bank.
The approved projects include the expansion of existing settlements and infrastructure upgrades, particularly in major settlement blocs such as Ariel and Barkan, with the stated goal of reinforcing connectivity between settlement communities.
In the southern West Bank, construction plans focus on settlements near the governorates of Hebron and Bethlehem, including Sansana and neighboring settlement areas.
The measures also involve changes to the designated use of previously confiscated Palestinian land, converting some agricultural and grazing areas into zones allocated for urban development and settlement expansion.
The approvals come amid ongoing debate over settlement growth in the West Bank, with Palestinians and international organizations warning that continued expansion could further complicate prospects for a future political settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
