“Israel” reportedly steps back from Beirut strike amid Iranian deterrence warnings

SANAA, June 01 (YPA) –”Israel” has reportedly retreated from launching a strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs following Iranian warnings and the establishment of a deterrence equation linking any such attack to northern “Israel”, in a development seen as reflecting a shift in Israel’s strategic calculations amid evolving regional deterrence dynamics.

This comes after Iranian threats to strike northern “Israel” if it carries out strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, introducing a new deterrence equation that pushed Tel Aviv to reassess its calculations.

The Iranian warnings came in response to a rapid escalation by Israeli entity, including evacuation orders issued to residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs, in a move widely viewed as signaling an expansion of strikes to include the Lebanese capital itself.

In this context, the US position became more evident in the broader de-escalation process, as US President Donald Trump stated that “Israel” would not proceed with a strike on Hezbollah at this stage, in a remark reflecting Trump’s intention not to return to war.

Israeli media outlets have sought to frame the shift as the result of direct U.S. pressure on Tel Aviv, but available data suggests it was driven primarily by a deterrence equation shaped by Iranian threats and a clearly established linkage between any strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs and retaliation against northern “Israel.”

According to observers, Trump’s position reflects growing concerns over a renewed confrontation with Iran and its potential far-reaching consequences for the United States, particularly regarding the security of its forces in the region and the risk of broader escalation of the war that could get out of control.
