Iran sets preconditions for return to nuclear negotiations with US

TEHRAN, May 23 (YPA) – Fars News Agency, citing a source close to the Iranian negotiating team, said on Saturday that three major unresolved issues remain between Iran and the United States, warning that talks would not proceed unless these points are addressed.

The source said the U.S. side has come to recognize that Iran “will not submit to the logic of force,” despite an earlier American approach based on “pressure and incentives,” adding that Tehran is demanding confidence-building measures before entering nuclear negotiations.

It further noted that upcoming discussions are expected to focus on nuclear issues, with Iran reportedly insisting as a key condition on the release and transfer of frozen Iranian funds.

According to the source, Tehran also maintains that any maritime-related arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz must follow what it describes as its own specific framework, emphasizing its independent approach to regional maritime security.
