Sanaa reveals details of largest prisoner exchange deal following 3-month negotiations

SANAA, May 21 (YPA) – The Head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abdulqader Al-Mortada, along with his accompanying delegation, arrived at Sanaa International Airport on Thursday following a round of negotiations that lasted over three months.

In a press conference, Al-Mortada disclosed the details of the upcoming exchange deal, which includes:

  • 1,200 prisoners and detainees from the Army and Popular Committees.
  • 580 prisoners from the other side.
  • 400 abductees who were taken from roads and workplaces by the mercenaries of the aggression coalition (Saudi-led coalition forces).

Al-Mortada pointed out that this round of negotiations faced numerous complexities and obstacles, most notably the concealment of the fate of dozens of forcibly disappeared persons for over a decade. He confirmed that the committee successfully included more than 50 of these forcibly disappeared prisoners in the deal, despite the other side’s previous denials of their existence.

Concluding his statement, Al-Mortada emphasized the seriousness of the deal and expressed high confidence in its execution, reassuring the families of the remaining prisoners that efforts will be made to include them in upcoming exchange deals.
