Saudi delegate adopts proposal to purge Aden of STC remnants within 3 weeks

ADEN, May 20 (YPA) – The Saudi delegate in Aden city, “Falah al-Shahrani,” has approved a decisive plan proposed by the Interior Minister in the Saudi-backed government, Ibrahim Haidan, to expel the “Belt Security” factions belonging to the pro-UAE “dissolved” Southern Transitional Council (STC)—recently renamed “National Security”—outside the city in phases over a period of 3 weeks.

This comes within the course of the so-called “restructuring” and the removal of leadership loyal to Abu Dhabi, amid intense Saudi fears of armed clashes.

Haidan’s proposal suggested deploying the “Emergency forces” loyal to the Presidential Leadership Council’s President, “Rashad al-Alimi,” to secure Aden and prevent a recurrence of the August 2019 events.

Sources linked al-Alimi’s return to the extent of security achieved in the city, which continues to suffer from a widespread collapse of basic services and angry nightly demonstrations demanding the expulsion of forces loyal to Saudi Arabia.

This coincides with Saudi Arabia continuing to push military reinforcements and vehicles for the “Emergency forces” arriving via the Al-Abar road in Hadramout valley.
