ADEN, May 19 (YPA) – A leaked official document circulating in recent hours has triggered widespread anger in Aden and other southern areas controlled by pro-Saudi forces, after revealing a financial claim linked to maintenance work at Aden International Airport.
According to the document, a contractor submitted a request to the Saudi-backed Aden government headed by Shaya Al-Zindani seeking approximately $2.5 million —equivalent to nearly four billion Yemeni riyals in Aden’s exchange rate — reportedly for cleaning the airport’s flooring.
Activists and local commentators described the figure as excessive and disproportionate to the nature of the work involved, arguing that the case highlights concerns over corruption, weak oversight, and public spending transparency.
The controversy has fueled public frustration amid worsening economic conditions in Aden and other southern provinces, where residents continue to face prolonged electricity outages, delayed salaries, and deteriorating basic services.
