Trump administration weighs military options on Cuba

WASHINGTON, May 19 (YPA) – The Trump administration is actively weighing military intervention options on Cuba following the failure of previous efforts to secure political and economic reforms through harsh sanctions and tighter restrictions on fuel supplies to the island , US media outlets reported, citing officials.

According to the officials, military action against Cuba is now being discussed within the administration more seriously than at any previous stage. US officials are reportedly evaluating a range of strategic scenarios that go far beyond limited operations aimed at detaining specific Cuban officials or individuals.

Leaked information indicates that the measures under consideration by the Pentagon range from a targeted airstrike designed to pressure the Cuban government into making political concessions, to a large-scale ground intervention intended to bring about full regime change on the island.

In a related development, the officials said that the US Southern Command has, in recent weeks, already launched an intensive round of operational planning to prepare the logistical and military frameworks required for any political decision the White House may take regarding a potential military action.
