Iran’s mission to UN: Countries that adopted Washington’s draft resolution will share responsibility for its consequences

NEW YORK, May 16 (YPA) – Iran’s mission to the United Nations has warned against advancing a revised US draft resolution before the Security Council aimed at “securing the Strait of Hormuz,” asserting that Washington is leveraging regional parties to manufacture “false international support” to legitimize further military adventures in the region.

The Iranian mission underscored that any new US-led escalation would hold all co-sponsoring nations internationally responsible for the ensuing consequences, stressing that no diplomatic cover would exempt them from facilitating aggression.

In a related development, Russia’s permanent mission to the UN urged Security Council members to reject the draft resolution, branding it a “unilateral and confrontational” step that serves as a pretext for further aggression against Iran and risks escalating regional tensions.

The draft resolution, pushed by the United States and Bahrain with backing from Gulf states—including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar—was recently amended to remove references to “Chapter VII,” which authorizes the use of force, following firm opposition from Russia and China to the initial draft.
