ABYAN, May 14 (YPA) – A massive fire engulfed the home of military commander Mehran Al-Qubati, affiliated with the Islah Party, in the coastal city of Shuqrah in Abyan governorate, after an electrical short circuit reportedly triggered the blaze, causing panic among residents of the neighborhood.
Sources familiar with the matter said the fire broke out at the house located in the Kod Anbar area due to an electrical fault, amid reports of explosions caused by ammunition stored inside the residence.
The same sources explained that the explosions, which were heard across the residential area, intensified as the fire spread throughout the house and remained out of control while flames continued to rise.
According to the sources, local residents were unable to contain the blaze. No official figures have yet been released regarding casualties or the extent of material damage caused by the fire.
The incident sparked widespread anger among residents, who condemned the use of residential homes by military leaders as ammunition storage sites, warning that such practices pose a direct threat to civilians.
Residents called on the Saudi-backed local authorities in Shuqrah to ensure that the homes of military leaders are cleared of ammunition and explosive materials in order to prevent similar incidents that endanger families and children.
