Rare Yemeni artifacts offered for sale at five US, UK auction houses

SANAA, May 13 (YPA) – Yemeni antiquities expert, Abdullah Mohsen, declared on Thursday that a new wave of Yemeni artifacts is set to be offered for sale at five exhibitions and auction houses in the United States and Britain during the current month.

In a post on X, Mohsen said the items would be displayed through the American auction houses and galleries Artemis Gallery, Balclis, Reverie Auctions, and Freeman’s, in addition to the British exhibition house Lyon & Turnbull.

He warned that rare Yemeni antiquities and manuscripts are being presented for direct sale outside Yemen after being illegally removed from the country.

The Yemeni expert criticized the continued failure of the Saudi-backed Aden government to address the trafficking of Yemen’s historical heritage.

Mohsen attached an image of an ancient camel statue to his post, noting that details about many of the artifacts scheduled for sale remain unknown.

He added that several international cities have increasingly become markets for Yemeni antiquities amid ongoing concerns over the smuggling and loss of the country’s cultural heritage.
