Saudi plot to split STC, find replacement for Al-Zoubaidi

RIYADH, Aug. 13 (YPA) –The  Saudi “Special Committee” is holding intensive meetings with several Southern Transitional Council (STC) leaders under house arrest in Riyadh, aiming to select a successor to STC Chairman Aidarous Al-Zoubaidi.

Political and media sources familiar with the matter stated that members of the Special Committee have significantly stepped up their activities over the past 48 hours.

The committee is reportedly employing new tactics aimed at fostering deep rifts and structural divisions among the Riyadh-based STC factions, effectively cutting off their lines of communication with Al-Zoubaidi.

According to the sources, Riyadh aims to install a loyalist leader at the helm of a remodeled, Saudi-controlled council. In an effort to dismantle internal resistance, Saudi officials have reportedly extended financial inducements and political guarantees to key STC figures to draft them into the campaign against Sanaa forces.

However, local observers have warned of serious repercussions, describing the moves as a deliberate attempt to fracture the southern camp, sever ties between its leaders and grassroots supporters, and ultimately advance Riyadh’s broader agenda in Yemen’s southern and eastern governorates.
