Iran warns UAE-Egypt fighter jet deployment could escalate Gulf tensions

TEHRAN, May 12 (YPA) – Tensions in the region continue to escalate amid new military and political developments, following reports of Egyptian fighter jets being deployed in the United Arab Emirates, a move that triggered a strong reaction from Iran.

Tehran described the development as a shift that could disrupt the regional security balance, warning that it represents an increase in tensions among Gulf actors.

In comments reported by Mehr News Agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that the presence of foreign military forces in the region is unacceptable, adding that such measures undermine stability rather than enhance it.

He stressed that Iran’s relations with Egypt are based on mutual respect, but reiterated opposition to any actions that could threaten regional security, regardless of the parties involved.

The remarks followed a recent visit by UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to an Egyptian Rafale fighter jet unit stationed inside the UAE, highlighting expanding defense cooperation between Abu Dhabi and Cairo.

The situation unfolded against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions linked to ongoing U.S.-Israeli-Iranian confrontation, which has contributed to increased military activity and political friction across the Gulf region.
