UN: 40,000 Palestinians displaced in West Bank since early 2025

WEST BANK, May 09 (YPA) – The United Nations announced that Israeli occupation practices have forced approximately 40,000 Palestinians into displacement across the occupied West Bank from the beginning of 2025 to date.

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, revealed these figures during a press briefing at the UN headquarters in New York, citing data from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Detailing recent escalations, Haq noted that home demolitions carried out by Israeli settlers during the first week of May alone resulted in the displacement of 42 Palestinians, including 24 children.

He further emphasized that the Israeli occupation army and armed settlers—operating under military protection—continue their uninterrupted assaults across all cities in the West Bank, targeting Palestinians and their property as the “indigenous inhabitants of the region.”

This wave of displacement comes amid a sharp rise in Israeli military operations, including incursions, mass arrests, and the excessive use of force.

According to official Palestinian data, these intensified actions by the occupation forces and settlers since October 2023 have resulted in at least 1,155 deaths, approximately 11,750 wounded, and the detention of nearly 22,000 individuals.
