Naval clashes in Hormuz; Iran targets US destroyers, denounces “politicized” maritime security

TEHRAN, May 08 (YPA) – Major military offshore clashes erupted in the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman, as the Iranian Navy targeted three US destroyers with missiles and suicide drones, reporting significant damage and forcing the vessels to retreat.

The Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Headquarters stated the strikes were a direct retaliation for US attacks on an Iranian oil tanker and civilian areas in (Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm).

On the diplomatic front, Iran’s UN Envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, warned against a “politicized” Security Council resolution, accusing Washington of seeking to legitimize illegal operations. He emphasized that ending the foreign military presence is the only path to regional stability.
