Deadly clashes in Shabwa leave casualties

SHABWA, May 02 (YPA) – Deadly clashes broke out on Saturday in the coastal district of Rudum in Yemen’s Shabwa province, which is under the control of Saudi-backed forces. The clashes left casualties amid rising tribal tensions, local sources reported.

According to local sources, armed elements led by the son of a commander of the Saudi-backed 2nd Marine Infantry Brigade opened fire on two brothers from ” Al Al-Bailaq” family in the Bir Ali area near the Arabian Sea coast.

The attack left Salem Mohammed Lakra dead, while his brother Nouh was seriously injured.

During the clashes, Alaa Ali Abu Bakr Al-Sulaimani—identified as the son of the brigade commander—was also wounded, along with one of his companions from the Al-Kazem tribe.

Al-Sulaimani was reportedly transferred to the city of Mukalla in Hadramout province for medical treatment.

Sources noted that the exact causes of the confrontation remain unclear, but tensions in Bir Ali are running high.

The situation is reportedly volatile, with fears of further escalation between members of the “Al Al-Bailaq” tribe and fighters affiliated with the Second Marine Infantry Brigade.

These developments come amid what observers describe as a worsening security vacuum across districts of Shabwa under the control of Saudi-aligned factions. Local leaders have faced accusations of fueling conflicts tied to competition over the province’s oil resources.
