Araqchi: Repercussions of Strait of Hormuz on global economy lie with aggressors against Iran

TEHRAN, April 22 (YPA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi asserted on Wednesday that the responsibility for the repercussions of the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz on the global economy lies with the “aggressors,” considering the situation a direct result of America’s violations of international law and its aggression against an independent state that is a member of the United Nations.

In a telephone call with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, which he posted on his X account, Araqchi said that Iran, “as the coastal state of the Strait of Hormuz, has taken measures in accordance with international law to protect its national security from the aggression and threats of America and Israel.”

He considered the silence of European countries regarding this violation of the law unacceptable, warning of the increasing weakening of international law and the nuclear non-proliferation regime as a result of the European countries’ double standards.

He pointed out that it is the responsibility of all governments worldwide to condemn the grave violations of the UN Charter and international law by those attacking Iran.

For his part, the Italian minister stressed the importance of establishing peace and stability in the Gulf region, expressing his country’s readiness to contribute to strengthening stability throughout the region.
