TEHRAN, April 18 (YPA) – Iran announced on Saturday the reinstatement of strict military control over the Strait of Hormuz, effectively closing it to normal traffic.
The move comes in response to what Tehran described as “broken promises” by the United States and the continued “blockade” of Iranian vessels.
Spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Brigadier General Ebrahim Zolfaghari, stated that this escalation follows a brief period of limited, monitored passage for oil tankers, according to Tasnim News Agency.
He emphasized that full military oversight will remain in place as long as Washington fails to guarantee the free movement of ships traveling to and from Iran.
Tehran further condemned ongoing US “maritime piracy,” asserting that the strategic waterway will remain under rigorous armed forces management until further notice.
