 Humanitarian Affairs, int’l Orgs. condemn targeting civilians in Hodeidah

SANAA, Aug. 5 (YPA) – A meeting was held on Saturday at the headquarters of the National Authority for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Response, which included representatives of more than ten international organizations.

In the meeting, the representatives of international organizations working in Yemen expressed their dismay at the targeting of civilians in Hodeidah, considering the crimes as terrible and unfortunate.

In a statement Issued by the meeting, which included the representatives of the United Nations, the WFP Resident, FAO Resident, UNICEF Resident, Acting Resident of the International Organization for Migration, Resident of the World Health Organization and Resident of UNFPA, condemned the targeting of civilian objects in Hodeidah, which killed dozens of civilians.

The National Authority and international organizations condemned the targeting protected civilian facilities which without respect the international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

The statement stressed that this targeting undermines all efforts to alleviate catastrophic humanitarian situation as well as efforts to reduce the effects of the spread of diseases and epidemics, including cholera, which has threatened the lives of thousands of civilians inside Hodeidah.

The National Authority and international organizations affirmed that the targeting of civilian objects is a disregard of all statements and appeals of international organizations that warn against the targeting of civilians and emphasize the need to protect them as well as their warning of the disastrous humanitarian situation in Yemen.

The statement called on all parties of conflict to respect the right of civilians to life by complying with all relevant humanitarian laws and charters.
