Trump requests “historic” $1.5 trillion defense budget for 2027

WASHINGTONG, April 04 (YPA) – The White House has submitted its fiscal year 2027 budget request to Congress, featuring a historic surge in defense spending to $1.5 trillion, a 42% increase over the current year.

This massive spike, the largest since the end of World War II, comes at the expense of non-defense spending, which faces a 10% cut (approximately $73 billion).

Key Budget Priorities:

Naval Dominance: Funding for the construction of 123 ships and “Virginia-class” submarines.
Missile Defense: Allocating $185 billion for the “Golden Dome” program.
Aerial Warfare: Continued procurement of F-35 fighter jets.

Despite President Trump’s previous pledges to balance the budget, this aggressive military expansion places his fiscal plans under intense investor scrutiny, especially after defense spending crossed the $1 trillion threshold for the first time in history last year.
