Massive protest in Gaza rejects “prisoner execution law”, urges urgent international action

GAZA, March 31 (YPA) – Gaza City witnessed a massive popular protest on Tuesday in front of the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the west of the city.

The demonstration voiced strong opposition to recent Israeli occupation legislation targeting Palestinian prisoners, primarily the so-called “prisoner execution law.”

The event was organized by the families of prisoners, with the participation of former detainees and specialized organizations. Participants raised photos of their loved ones and Palestinian flags, chanting slogans condemning the law and describing it as a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of international law.

Speakers emphasized that the passage of the law represents an unprecedented shift in punitive policies, urging the international community to take immediate action to halt it.

Former prisoner Majdi Abed criticized the Arab and international silence toward a decision that “permits the killing of thousands of prisoners,” while reviewing the extent of suffering inside Israeli jails.

Najah al-Rifi, the wife of prisoner Mahmoud al-Dahdouh—who has been detained since late 2023—expressed that the new law has redoubled her fears for her husband’s fate, noting that she supports a family of six in his absence.

The event concluded with participants affirming that popular and media mobilization will continue until the law is overturned, ensuring the protection of prisoners and their rights in accordance with international conventions.
