ROME, March. 31 (YPA) – Italy refused to allow American military planes to land at the Sigonella air base in Sicily, for the purpose of aggression against Iran, the ItrefusaNewspaper Corriere della Sera said.
The newspaper explained that the refusal came after it became clear that the objectives were not logistical or routine, and therefore were not included in the agreements between the countries.
It is noteworthy that Spain took a similar step, indicating a divergence of positions within the Western camp on how to deal with the crisis.
This move could inflame tensions with Washington, which has criticized its European allies for not supporting its war with Iran, whereas US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States may need to reassess its relationship.
