BAGHDAD, March 22 (YPA) – Abu Mahdi al-Jaafari, spokesperson for Saraya Awliya al-Dam, announced on Sunday that the United States and NATO had requested the Iraqi government to broker a 24-hour temporary truce with resistance factions.
The purpose of the truce, he said, is to allow US-led coalition forces to complete their withdrawal from Victory Base in Baghdad toward Turkey.
Al-Jaafari stated that several Iraqi resistance groups agreed to the truce on the condition that Popular Mobilization Forces sites, stretching from Samarra to Karbala, would not be targeted. He warned that any breach of the agreement would be met with a forceful response.
He also noted that NATO “S-30” aircraft were unable to land at Al Nasr Base due to heavy fire directed at the facility.
According to al-Jaafari, the American presence is now confined to the Kurdistan region, adding that resistance factions have expelled foreign forces from Baghdad and its surrounding areas.
He further criticized the weak stance of the Iraqi government and political factions in supporting Iran, saying their position fell short of expectations.
