Iran’s army targets F-15 fighter jet over airspace of island of Hormuz

TEHRAN, March 22 (YPA) – The Iranian military announced on Sunday that its air defense systems struck an F-15 fighter jet in the airspace near Hormuz Island in southern Iran.

In statement No. 38, cited by the Tasnim News Agency, the military said the aircraft was targeted on Sunday morning after being detected near Iran’s southern coast, where it was engaged with a surface-to-air missile.

The statement added that search operations are ongoing to determine the fate of the aircraft and its pilots.

The development comes amid heightened tensions following the escalation on February 28, when the United States and Israeli enemy launched strikes on Iran that reportedly caused significant civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.

In response, Iran announced the launch of Operation “True Promise 4,” targeting Israeli positions and U.S. bases in the region.
