Guterres warns of Lebanon sliding into all-out war, calls for immediate ceasefire

BEIRUT, March. 15 (YPA) – The UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned of the risk of the region sliding into a wider confrontation, calling on the Israeli occupation entity and the Lebanese Hezbollah to immediately cease fighting.

During his visit to Lebanon, Guterres said for the two parties: “Stop the fighting. Stop the shelling. There is no military solution to this conflict,” noting international concerns that the border clashes could escalate into a wider regional war.

In a press conference, Guterres explained that the exchange of military operations has turned large parts of southern Lebanon into semi-inhabitable areas, amid the destruction of infrastructure and the displacement of thousands of civilians.

He indicated that the Israeli occupation has hinted at the possibility of carrying out a large-scale ground operation inside Lebanese territory, a scenario that is causing increasing international concern.
