TEHRAN, March 01 (YPA) – Iran has announced a 40-day national mourning period and seven public holidays following the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had served as the country’s Supreme Leader since 1989.
According to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Khamenei was killed on Saturday morning in a joint US-Israeli attack on Iranian territory.
Iranian authorities said the United States and “Israel” carried out coordinated strikes beginning Saturday, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and leaving many others injured.
In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the launch of an operation it called “True Promise 4,” targeting Israeli territory and US bases in the region.
