Shin Bet security arrests “Israeli” on charges of spying for Iran, targeting senior official

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Feb. 16 (YPA) – Israeli occupation police press office announced that the Shin Bet security service arrested an Israeli citizen suspected of working for Iranian intelligence during a joint operation with the police following surveillance and security investigations.

According to the statement, the detainee is accused of communicating with Iranian entities and gathering intelligence on a high-ranking Israeli official. He was arrested while carrying out a reconnaissance mission, before being formally charged following the investigation.

The occupation police stated that the suspect is named Fares Abu al-Haija, and he was detained during an activity that security services considered an attempt at surveillance and preparation for an intelligence operation, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

The arrest comes in the context of escalating security confrontations between Iran and the Israeli occupation, as the two sides have exchanged accusations and arrests on charges of espionage in recent months, following the war that broke out between them last June and lasted 12 days.

Iranian judicial authorities announced on the 28th of last month the execution by hanging of a man arrested in April 2025 and convicted of spying for the Israeli occupation, in an indication of the continuation of the shadow intelligence war between the two sides.
