Dozens of Saudi-backed military vehicles deploy in Aden

ADEN, Feb. 13 (YPA) – Dozens of Saudi-backed military vehicles were deployed, on Friday, in various streets of Aden, southern Yemen, in a move reflecting the peak of security tensions with supporters of the UAE-backed “dissolved” Southern Transitional Council since the beginning of January.

Local sources confirmed that military vehicles and intensive patrols were deployed in Aden’s streets, with Saudi-backed forces establishing surprise checkpoints at the entrances and exits of Aden’s districts.

The sources explained that the deployed forces imposed strict security measures, including unprecedentedly thorough searches of vehicles and identity checks of passersby.

They noted that the establishment of armed checkpoints caused traffic paralysis and severe congestion on the city’s main streets, sparking widespread resentment among citizens.

These movements come amid an atmosphere of anticipation and caution due to escalating demands by Transitional Council supporters for the departure of Saudi-backed forces, while southern leaders remain under house arrest in Riyadh under the guise of the South-South Dialogue.
