LONDON, Feb. 10 (YPA) – Ethiopian authorities are reportedly running a secret training camp in the Beni Shangul-Gumuz region of western Ethiopia, where thousands of fighters are being trained to join the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), engaged in a full-scale conflict with the Sudanese army since 2023.
A Reuters investigation published on Tuesday, citing fifteen informed sources—including Ethiopian officials and diplomats—and backed by satellite imagery, internal security documents, and diplomatic cables, reported that the camp began operating in recent months, coinciding with an escalation of fighting in Sudan’s Blue Nile state near the Ethiopian border.
Eight of the sources said the United Arab Emirates financed the establishment of the camp and provided logistical assistance and military trainers, a claim also referenced in an internal Ethiopian security memorandum.
