SANAA, Feb. 05 (YPA) – The General Organization for Antiquities and Museums (GOAM) in Sanaa released its 31st list of looted Yemeni antiquities on Thursday, identifying 41 artifacts recently tracked in international auctions and museums.
The organization’s statement revealed that a portion of these pieces was smuggled years ago during the British occupation of Yemen under the guise of “personal collectibles.”
The statement further noted that six of these pieces were offered for sale during January and February of this year based on fraudulent ownership claims.
In its statement, GOAM called upon relevant international bodies to halt these auctions, citing violations of international law, and demanded the repatriation of the artifacts.
